3 transportation projects to know in Round Rock

Here are three ongoing projects around Round Rock.

1. Expansion of university boulevard

Teams will widen the east end of the carriageway from two to four lanes between Boulevard AW Grimes and SH 130. Other elements include the addition of a raised center lane and left turn lanes. The construction contract has been awarded and work could begin in May.

Calendar: spring 2021-end 2022 / start 2023

Cost: $ 11.1 million

Funding Sources: City of Round Rock Type B Fund, Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, Williamson County Road Bond Program

2. Extension of Logan Street

The project aims to improve access and connectivity as well as improve emergency response times in surrounding neighborhoods. The teams extend the road from Greenlawn Boulevard to AW Grimes Boulevard. The two-lane road project also includes a Dry Branch Tributary 1 bridge, sidewalks, and a connection to the Heritage Springs Trail.

Timeline: summer 2020-June 2021

Cost: $ 2 million

Funding Source: Round Rock Type B sales tax revenue

3. Extension of boulevard Kenney Fort

Construction is underway to extend the road from the south end of the Old Settlers Park Multipurpose Sports Complex to connect with the entrance to the Meritage Homes development at Chandler Creek Boulevard. This work is part of a larger project that will widen Fort Kenney to a total of six lanes between Old Settlers Boulevard and Joe DiMaggio Boulevard. The next phase is the design.

Timeline: expected completion in May 2021

Cost: $ 3.5 million
