COATESVILLE — A Coatesville man faces a host of criminal charges after he steals and crushes a Coatesville cop car while trying to outrun authorities.
Alex Thompson, 19, was arrested and charged with police flight and evasion and multiple traffic violations after police responded to a domestic disturbance call on July 16, police said.
At 11:08 a.m. on July 16, Coatesville police responded to a domestic disturbance in the West Fifth Avenue unit block near Charles Street. Officers found Thompson to be uncooperative and fled the residence.
Thompson ran to the police car, the keys in the ignition, and took off. Coatesville Police, with assistance from nearby police departments and State Police, pursued and attempted to stop the vehicle.
Thompson eventually crashed into the vehicle in the back of another vehicle in the area of Routes 340 and Business Route 30 in Thorndale.
Immediately after crashing into the police car, Thompson fled the scene of the crash but was apprehended by Pennsylvania State Police detectives.
Thompson is currently being assessed for physical and mental health issues. The operator of the unit who was struck by Thompson was taken to Brandywine Hospital for observation.
