Read the book; Watch the movie …

“Where the Crawdads Sing” – One-time special screening with post-film discussion – Sunday, July 24 at 2 p.m. at the Harbor Theatre, Boothbay Harbor.

If you’re like me, when Hollywood takes one of your favorite books and turns it into a movie, your mind begins to generate both excitement and worry. Are they going to honor the story that the author has put down on paper or are they going to create something that wanders off so much that it’s unrecognizable? Who will they choose as characters? How are they going to “get an idea” of the setting and the story that largely contribute to the success of the book? In short, I always worry, “Are they going to screw this up?” And once I’ve seen this movie, more than anything, I want to find other people who have seen it, and see if the answers to their questions are the same as mine.

Well, now you can do just that. At 2 p.m., the Harbor Theater will host a special book reading; See the film screening of “Where the Crawdads Sing” The show will include a fireside chat after the viewing. Marion Coleman, Chair of the Harbor Theater Board of Trustees Special Events Committee, will lead the audience as together we talk about what we think they did right and what we think they didn’t. have not done. Please mark this special screening of “Crawdads” on your calendar, and let’s see what it’s like to have the chance to really talk about the film.
