NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – University of Manchester junior distance runner Enrique Salazar is set to compete in the 2022 NCAA Division III National Outdoor Athletics Championships this weekend in Geneva, Ohio. Salazar will compete in the 10,000m which will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 9:15 p.m. This year’s championships will be held at the SPIRE Institute.

Salazar (Plymouth) had a track campaign for the history books. After narrowly missing out on the indoor nationals over the winter, Salazar was able to earn his ticket to the outdoor championships after setting a new school record in the 10,000m at the WashU (Mo.) Distance Carnival in early April – a time of 29:46.52 which ranked him 12th in the event.

Both the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor and Outdoor Distance MVP, Salazar was the leading points scorer for the Black & Gold at this year’s conference championships and led the Spartans to their first-ever track and field titles. . The four-time HCAC Track Male Athlete of the Week set five new school records in 2022. Salazar was named the University of Manchester Male Athlete of the Year on May 9.

In order to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships, for each men’s individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student athletes were accepted into the championships. For every individual women’s event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student athletes were accepted into this year’s championships. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into this year’s championships by the NCAA.

Salazar will be joined in Ohio by fellow Spartan Carley Camp, who will compete in the shot put on Friday.

Camp (Logansport) burst onto the scene in his first season as a member of the Manchester athletics teams. Camp helped the Spartans sweep this year’s Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference track and field championships, helping the Black and Gold win the conference crowns for the first time since 2016. Camp was the HCAC’s outdoor champion in throwing hammer this spring. She also earned placements in all conferences in the shot put (indoor and outdoor) and discus (outdoor) while earning USTFCCCA All-Region recognition during the indoor circuit. Camp managed to secure his ticket to the outdoor championships after setting a new school record in the shot put at the 2022 HCAC Outdoor Athletics Championships in late April – a mark of 13.55m (44′ 5 1 /2″) who is seeded 22nd.
