In August, the British Parliament voted for the first time in history a formal insult to the President of the United States. They called President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan “shameful”. The dissatisfaction of the British Parliament was not that we had withdrawn from Afghanistan. Britain was not happy with the incompetence of the withdrawal and its poor communication. Biden’s withdrawal blinded not only Britain, but also France and other NATO allies. Prime Minister Boris Johnson attempted to contact President Biden because the Afghan capital had been overrun by the Taliban, but Biden would not have responded to Johnson’s call until 36 hours later.
Weeks later, France recalled its ambassador to the United States for the first time over another dispute that abandoned its agreement to sell submarines to Australia. France declared that the action “consists of unacceptable action between allies and partners, the consequences of which directly affect our vision of the alliance”. This unprecedented action and these harsh words come from our longest ally. France fought alongside us in the war of independence!
Candidate Joe Biden has vowed to restore our historic partnership, and many of our allies openly applauded when Joe Biden became president. They were eagerly awaiting a return to the good old days when the United States was available. But Biden’s spate of disasters and his administration’s incompetence changed their mood. Our allies are learning about the difficult way in which elections can bring results. Weak America threatens everyone’s security!
